The INDEX is based on a composite measure of eight pillars of hospital strength: Inpatient Share Ranking, Outpatient Share Ranking, Cost, Charge, Quality, Outcomes, Patient Perspectives, and Financial Efficiency. These pillars are made up of more than 50 individual indicator variables which comprise the “indicator level”. Indicators are also grouped into three categories (the “index level”, used for reporting purposes): Market, Value, and Finance.
The INDEX leverages the most recent publicly available data from CMS. This release includes the most recently available data as of January 2021.
